Perera Driving School (DS-09) is Nugegoda's first government-approved driving school, teaching people to drive safely and confidently since 1952 — over 70 years of experience passed down through three generations of the Perera family.

1. The process of getting a driving license in Sri Lanka?
  1. Book an appointment at the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT), Werahera.
  2. Register at DMT with required documents (NIC, birth certificate, medical certificate).
  3. Pass the written test to get a learner's permit (valid up to 18 months).
  4. Practice driving with the learner's permit for at least 3 months.
  5. Pass the practical driving test at age 18 or older.
  6. Receive a temporary license on passing the practical test; the official license card is mailed later.
2. What is the first thing to do to get the driving licence?

The first thing to do is to get a medical fitness certificate from the National Transport Medical Institute (NTMI) in Nugegoda. This confirms that you are healthy enough to drive.

The entire process takes 3 and a half months, primarily because of the mandatory learner's permit period and the time needed to schedule exams.
